What is rhinovirus? Human Rhinovirus (HRV) is a communicable, infectious virus that causes inflammation of the nasal mucosa, or rhinitis. It mainly causes upper respiratory tract infections, and gets its rhino- name, meaning nose, because it commonly causes a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing, as well as a sore throat and cough. There are over 100 serologic known types and all of them can cause a “common cold” in humans!

Can people get imune to the rhinovirus if we have antibodyes to all serotypes? Or do these serotypes mutate so fast that every year we can catch these same serotypes again?

I have just been diagnosed with rhinovirus, the amount of thick nasal green mucus is horrible, with sore throat, headache, with persistent cough that leads to wheezing, even though I have been clinically cleared from having asthma. So, I disagree in part with what was said in this video, in that rhinovirus can cause wheezing even if the patient does not have asthma. The constant cough with post nasal dripping, due to inflammation in the airway and cause wheezing. Of course the wheezing will be treated with nebs, and even prednisone to alleviate open airway until rhinovirus is resolved.
