A comparison for those thinking about buying Bose Companion 2 Series III. For 50 dollars more You can have Edifier R1700BT that is better than Bose in every way other than space it takes on desk. R1700BT not only sounds much better that Bose, but is also better build than all plasitc Bose and has Bluetooth connectivity and remote control as a bonus. Take that into cosideration before You pull the trigger on Bose.
What do You think? Would You pay 50 dollars more to get Edifier or You would stick with Bose? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!

I have one question for You. What to choose for my laptop? Which loudspeakers are better: Edifier 1700BT or Bose Companion 20 (not companion 2)? Best regards. Tommy
I hate the size of the edifiers. I have a limited amount of desk space, I don't want giant ass speakers taking up all my room. 🙁
Bose is the king….and the price too
Bose has the richer fuller sound the edifier is noticeably thin.
Gracias. Excelente video. Ahora se por cual decidirme
The little Bose speakers are very forgiving listening to bad program material (almost 70 percent of modern music nowedays, due to the "Loudness WAR"and compression artifacts) so for the majority of the general public these companion 20 's ARE a better choice than the Edifier speakers that wil be good as NearfieldMONITOR speakers in a little demo studio, to really listen in a relaxed way the edifiers are to "upfront"sounding with a nasty peak in the midhigh range ( a common problem, introduced by the factory to let them sound "better"at the store before buying, when you buy them and take them home, the result is especially in a normal small room with lots of harsch second reflections coming back from undampend walls, a overly harsh an bright sounding speaker with not much bass either…. in a small room (at home) these little companion 20's are marvelous sounding at normal listening levels, delivering a warm, but stil Neutral sound!
Allso to the people that say that BOSE has a bathtub EQ curve, yes that"s through , but necessary to deliver a fullgrown sound with these small speaker and enclosure, no problem as long as the EQ is well done, remember what filters, EQ, time and phase shifting the audio engineer of your recordings has used?
Hello from Italy . I'm listeng various demo for purchase. I have a question about Edifier 1700BT sound . In this test is different than in this other https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL-OGA38kmk. IN this test 100BT for example i Deep tracks sound bad than in other test vs 1280BT . Bass lack and mid and high are confused not soclearly and defined. SO I'm confused . Isf the test conditions and tracks are the same , because th e sound it's so different ? Many position of mic ? Some controls settings ? other ? Sould you are so gentle to tell us the reason of these differences ?
Thanks from Italy for your work.
Great stuff! I own the Bose and don’t like the sound that much. They sound boxy.
In your video the Edifier sounds thin but sounds amazing in other videos. Do you think the Edifier would be a nice upgrade for playing guitar through a irig with AmpliTube?
The Bose still sounds not that great with the guitar and the software.
Do you any other suggestion for 125-200$ ? I have to plug them using 1/8” in the laptop or irig!
Thanks!
Bose omits a lot of the mids.
This comparison is unfair because of their different price segment.
Hi, I know this is a very sily question.
Buy do you think R1700BT' bass is better than a 2.1 Z213?
I'm looking to upgrade my z213 for better sound, and my budget is around USD 100-150. what are your recommendations?
Cheers!
I hear it here too, the Edifier is gentler and so faster saturated, breaking apart with certain very intense or heavily distorted music. The Bose still holds then but in all other aspects it sounds less open.
Poor Bose, what get you into this test. (I am using Bose Sound true IEM to get the best correct sound yet this is what I heard from Bose)
Bose is very comfortable, smooth and easy to listen for all day, but its sound is pretty artificial. Anyway, I like vocal from it. It very beautiful.
it was unfair the bose is smaller than the rival
You got the best job bro….testing speaker…
Sounds like a blanket is thrown over the Bose. Edifier for the win! Edit: Kudos for these great video/sound comparisons! The perfect way to hear differences. Well done!
Edifier best
In terms of actual sound quality, the Edifier is in a completely different league from the Bose as far as I can hear from my headphones.
The Edifier has very audibly superior clarity is every played song while the Bose sounds like it was muffled by a pillow and playing through a tube all the time, being obviously undersized and underpowered, forcing it into distortion just to get reasonable volume.
would you rather choose edifier r1700 or harman kardon studio aura 2? Thx for your advice.
Bose sounds as if the maker is trying ferociously to get all dat bad bass so they didn't tune the rest of the midband.
Pardon me for this … in Classical track Bose sounds as if the quartett is consist of Viola, Cello, Double bass and Octobass…. nevertheless Bose sounds good in hip hop track by having overyly deep boomy bass.
Edifier has the more… far more complete sonic picture, keeping the bass at logical level and the rest sounds balanced
I own a Bose companion 2 mk3 and kinda tired of it so really was looking for the Edifier r1700BT. After this comparison, I'm not sure anymore 🙁 On the other Edifier r1700bt videos, it sounded quite nice but in this comparison it sounds tinny and cheap compared to the Bose. Yes, on a few songs the Edifier sounds better and the Bose sounds like a blanket is thrown onto it but for overall, I don't think it's worth getting the edifier over the existing companion 3 and it's better to maybe invest more on something distinctively better. Thanks +Digital Stereophony
easy
For New Orleans jazz the Edifier's took my preference but the Bose took it out in Such a lovely summer day. Making it hard!!😅😅
edifier looks a million times better, bose looks like a piece of shit $10 speakers
The bose sound as if a wet blanket has been thrown over the speakers. Anyone would have to be hearing impaired not to tell the Edifier are superior. However the Edifier mid treble is slightly glaring at first in comparison with the Bose.
And when hearing the classical violin, Hands down Edifier !
This comparison is strange to me because the Bose seems to blow the Edifier out of the water in nearly every way. There is a case to be made that there is more clarity in the higher and lower ends, but the Edifier sounds tinny, boxy, lifeless and cheap in this video. I know the purpose of a studio monitor is to achieve a flat sound but this is practically dead here and not worth the sacrifice in quality. However, I've found a peculiarity in my opinions based on my research with your channel's videos today:
Mackie CR3 was a bit better than the Bose Companion 2.
Mackie CR4 was an improvement over the Mackie CR3.
Edifier R1700BT was much better than the Mackie CR4.
Bose Companion is in a different league altogether than the Edifier R1700BT.
How can a speaker simultaneously be the best and the worst using the same song samples? Were any settings changed on the Edifier R1700BT between this video and the R1700BT vs CR4 video? Was this maybe due to the mic being used? I can't quite tell if it's the same recording equipment or not, though I would think if it was due to different recording equipment it would affect each speaker similarly. Judging from experience, this is the sound I get out of my Bose Companion 2 speakers I have at home.
Sorry if this is a TL;DR post but I don't have a ton of money to throw around at the moment and need to replace those aforementioned speakers since they just died, so I want to make sure that if I get the Edifiers they really will be as great as the most recent videos have shown off versus the underwhelming set shown in this video, and this seems to be one of the best places to check. Any tips on EQ settings for the Edifier?
could you do Edifier R1700BT vs Thonet & Vander Vertrag ? thx!
